The Hit Air Jacket is an innovation in equestrian safety. Air Jackets have been used for motorbike riders for numerous years now and have proven invaluable for improving safety and reducing serious injury. The introduction of Air Jackets into equestrian sports has been an overwhelming success and the increased protection offered will undoubtedly ensure that they become as common place as wearing a riding hat.
Hit Air Vests are super lightweight and flexible to offer complete freedom of movement when not inflated. In the event of a fall and become separated from your horse the Hit Air Jacket will inflate to offer protection to the neck, spine, chest, ribcage, lower back and vital organs. This equestrian airbag creates a shock buffering system for the body that offers maximum protection and helps to prevent injury. The Hit Air Equestrian Air Vest will inflate in 0.25 seconds to ensure it is fully inflated before contact is made with the ground or other obstacle. Once your Hit Air Vest has inflated the CO2 canister must be replaced before being used again.
Hit Air Vests work differently from rival products in that the airbags inflate outwards instead of inwards, ensuring the jacket can have a closer fit when not inflated. This Hit Air Vest comes complete with a saddle strap that attaches to your stirrup bars and a lanyard that connects your air jacket to your saddle (via the saddle strap). One CO2 canister is also included and a full instruction booklet that should be read prior to use. Replacement Hit Air Canisters are available to purchase and only Hit Air Canisters should be used in Hit Air Jackets.
The Hit Air Vest is fully CE certified and conforms with 89/686/EC*96/58EC and EN 340:2003. It has also won numerous awards for safety innovation in equestrian sectors.
Children must weigh a minimum of 25kg to trigger the mechanism and the vest must be purchased on behalf of the child by an adult of 18 years or over. An adult must read the instructions on the receipt and be responsible for fitting the vest, attaching the saddle strap and lanyard and changing the canisters once inflated.
This Hit Jacket comes with a pressurised canister so therefore cannot be sent overseas.
Size Guide
It is important to make sure your Hit-Air vest is correctly fitted and adjusted before use.
It is compulsory to wear a body protector at FEI and BE competitions, so please take this into account when measuring yourself for an airvest.
When fitted correctly, the vest should be a close enough fit so that it doesn't buffer in the wind, but at the same time, it needs to be able to freely inflate.
It is imperative that your airvest is not worn underneath other clothing / protective equipment, as it needs to be able to inflate freely and without hinderance.
The following size chart takes into account the Hit Air Vest, ladies size, chest size and waist size (in inches).
Please note, the waist fastening is highly adjustable. The chest area of the vests is also very accomodating across various sizes, due to there being no 360° restriction enitrely around the chest.

Customer Survey Results
Hit-air Customer Survey results
12 March 2012
Hit-air are constantly seeking to understand more about the needs of our customers. In a survey of 100 Hit-air customers:
- 86% of riders said outward inflation was a factor in choosing a Hit-air vest
- 34% said the superior neck and /or ribcage protection was a deciding factor
- 54% plan to event at some level in the next year
- 21% are leisure riders who do not plan to compete in any equestrian competition in the next year
- 6% of customers are protecting an existing injury
The survey suggests that the outward inflation is still an important factor in choosing Hit-air. We have a patent on the design to fold the airbags away within a harness style vest. This allows the vest to inflate outwards, which has several major benefits. There is no possibility of winding the rider on inflation, although the vest still provides a stabilising affect to the upper torso. This is very important to our riders. This also makes them safe for riders with pre-existing chest conditions. This also means that the vest can be worn neatly over the body or body protector as the vest does not need to accommodate the inward inflation. So the vest is discrete and it limits the interference with riding. The outward inflation, combined with adjustable internal straps also means that the vest can be layered neatly over a t-shirt in the summer but can accommodate coats and fleeces in the winter without risk of being too tight on inflation. In this particular survey most riders who purchased an air vest (54%) were planning to take part in the more extreme equestrian discipline, eventing although many of those were also planning to use the vest for excerising horses at home,Leisure riders (21%) are increasingly choosing Hit-air as a means to increase protection in every day riding. This figure has been even higher in previous customer surveys.
